Itochu 건축 자재 Co., Ltd.는 Itochu Corporation과 제휴 한 전문 건축 자재 거래 회사입니다. The company handled wooden folding boxes manufactured by a wood manufacturer in Hokkaido and used for bento, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, domestic demand for bento, etc. has declined. They were concerned that if things continue like this, the management of wood manufacturers would not be able to survive, and that special techniques for bending thinly shaved wood would be lost.
In this context, the federal government of Canada announced in October 2020 that it had a policy to enact the ban on single-use plastics. The company believed that luxury, good-looking, and environmentally friendly fold boxes are likely to have a business opportunity in Canada as demand for take-out and delivery grows amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to a consultation from the company, the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Food Department of Tokyo Headquarters proposed to the company to utilize the "Project for developing sales channels for Japanese ingredients, etc. in collaboration with local retail, restaurants, distribution businesses, etc.". Using this project, we held a webinar and business negotiations starting in September 2021, explaining and introducing the characteristics and benefits of Japanese folding boxes, targeting Japanese food supporters and food packaging wholesale businesses in Toronto and Vancouver.
With viewing the development of this initiative in Canada, we will continue to develop its efforts to the United States in the future.
